Overview:

Audacious and courageous, Korth is upbeat and friendly…once you earn her trust, that is. A bit dog aggressive, this bitch approaches strangers in a defensive manner, deeming them as a threat until they prove themselves otherwise. She’s sure to come off as intimidating at first, despite her small stature, and can be hot headed and feisty around dogs she doesn’t know. Not a stranger to fights, she won’t back down from one and is known for being reckless in that regard, more than willing to throw it all away just to prove someone wrong. Korth rarely thinks before she acts and when she does, it’s typically only when someone she cares about is affected by her actions.

Getting on her good side is really hit or miss. She trusts her intuition and instincts and if they say you seem like a massive prick, well…that’s how she’s going to see you. Forever. However, once she decides you’re decent, she’ll be happy to share what she has with you and will do her best to make you happy and cheer you up if you’re down. Thriving on the presence of others and having a newly formed issue with abandonment, Korth is likely to stick by your side and does best when working with other dogs she trusts. Though not pushy or demanding, she is independent and can take on the leader role when necessary. Whether or not she’s actually a good leader is a whole ‘nother matter entirely though, as she’s apt to only wanting to accomplish whatever goal she has in mind.

But overall, her real passion is satisfying her incessant curiosity. A drawback to her fearlessness, Korth will not hesitate to investigate new things, even if they are dangerous. It’s worth the risk, as far as she’s concerned, and doesn’t seem fazed by how stupid a decision may be as long as it gets her what she wants. And once she finds something of interest, it consumes her until she accomplishes what she’s set out to do.

Nature: Rash

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

+ Daring

Life is a game of survival for Korth and she treats it as such. She tends to be bold and takes big risks, much to the dismay of those close to her. Very goal-oriented, she doesn’t always seem to realize how much danger she’s in if it means victory in some form. Some may call her foolish, but can’t deny that this also makes her brave and fearless.

+ Loyal

Though not fond of those she doesn’t know well, Korth will be loyal to the end once you become her friend or ally. She tends to put others before herself and will protect them as such. However, because of her reluctance to trust others, her loyalty may be difficult to obtain.

+ Generous

Once you’ve earned Korth’s trust, she is liable to share what she has with you, even if it isn’t much.

+ High-Spirited

For the most part tends to be cheerful and optimistic. She doesn’t like to outwardly dwell on bad things, mainly for the sake of others, and will try to cheer everyone up.

- Hasty

Quickly makes decisions without thinking too much into them.

- Clingy

The death of her mother struck a chord. It was the first time she had suffered loss and it established a very strong fear of being left alone and abandoned. Because of this, she will want to spend as much time with others as possible and may seem clingy at times.

- Judgmental

Anyone she doesn’t know is treated as a potential threat. She will stubbornly stick by that theory until proven otherwise, but in the meantime, don’t expect any kind words out of her.

- Single-Minded

Once Korth has a goal set, she will focus completely on it, even if that means putting herself in danger. It takes a lot to break her out of that mindset.

= Inquisitive

Anything new or out of the ordinary will become an object of curiosity for her.

Optimist or Pessimist: Optimist

Why? >> Things have always been hard for her growing up, but she isn’t afraid of the future. With the experience she’s gained, she doesn’t see things getting any worse than they already have. The only way from here is up!

Introvert or Extrovert: Extrovert

Why? >> Despite her standoffishness, Korth is actually quite social and dependent on others to make her feel safe and comfortable. She may be a bit more withdrawn than before, but she still thrives on social interaction.

Drives & Motives:

Before losing Heidi, Korth’s main drive was to explore as much as the city as possible. With an insatiable curiosity, she feels the need to know everything around her, and that still carries over into the current time. However, another main drive of hers is to one day find her sister again…hopefully in one piece.

Pet Peeves:

    -       Being ignored or disregarded

    -       People thinking they’re better than her

    -       Having her freedom limited

Mental Illness: n/a

She doesn’t have any mental illness per se, but is currently suffering from some abandonment issues and insecurity over the loss of both her mother and sister.

.Start of Life.

Sadie had been alone and malnourished during the vast majority of her pregnancy, her mate succumbing to illness very early on. With no one to help her hunt and with the burden of pregnancy hindering her, out of the four pups she bore, only one was born alive. She named her surviving pup Korth and vowed to keep the tiny thing alive, despite the odds stacked against her. Using her mourning over her stillborn children to drive her, Sadie did her best to hunt and produce enough milk for her pup.

Korth’s first few months were incredibly difficult, but as time wore on and she became more independent, life seemed to give the pair a bit of a break. They were nomadic, never staying in place too long before moving on, Sadie well aware that the cold and other dogs weren’t the only things they had to keep an eye out for. Fortunately, there weren’t too many instances of danger to show her daughter at the time (she was too paranoid of losing her last pup to stick around long enough for something to find them), but she still knew it was important that Korth learn how to be independent as soon as possible. So though she was clumsy and excitable at first, Sadie began allowing her to accompany her on hunting trips, to spook prey into her mother’s jaws, at least. And it was on one such trip that the mother and daughter team stumbled across something they hadn’t expected.

A lump of brown fur lay in the pristine snow, and for a moment, Sadie held Korth back, thinking it was a predator lying in wait. But as she slowly approached, it was evident that it was canine, like themselves, but stiff and frozen, its only movement being the fur pulled only by the wind. Sadie had sighed and turned to move on when a tiny whimper caught her attention and something huddled close against the body began to move. Korth, always the curious one, instantly sprinted to investigate, unheeding of her mother’s warnings. She stuck her nose in, only to have it meet another and realized it was another pup. Korth couldn’t tell how old it was, though, as it was at least twice her size, but when it looked out at her with scared, sad eyes, she couldn’t help but want to help. And neither could her mother.

The implications were much more tragic for Sadie, who realized who the dead figure must’ve been and what they had done – lending their last bit of warmth to protect their single offspring. The whole situation hit too close to home for the new mother and though they didn’t have much to offer the orphan, she took her in as her own. Their family was small and broken, but they welcomed the pup named Heidi in and soon became close and dependent on one another, not only for their physical wellbeing, but their emotional health as well. Rarely did the trio ever stray from one another as they explored the long since abandoned city they called home.

As the young females grew older, they gained in size – or, at least, Heidi did. Korth hadn’t grown much more than her mother, but Heidi, whose genes consisted of significantly heavier and larger breeds, was enormous and towered over the both of them. Which, in retrospect, would have been intimidating, if she wasn’t so sweet. Their personalities couldn’t be more opposite (with Heidi being gentle, cautious, and welcoming, and Korth being hasty, audacious, and defensive of newcomers), but they managed to get along and form quite the team. Which was just as well, as soon it would be just the two of them.

It was sometime after Korth’s first birthday when the trio was exploring the remnants of a skyscraper, the foundation and structure a bit unstable but not enough to deter the inquisitive bitch. Korth had gone on ahead of her little pack, as usual, and scampered up and down the creaky stairwells without much hesitation. Finally they managed to find their way to the basement level of the building after going down a particularly rickety metal stairway. It was a place they had never explored before, and Sadie went down the steps first to ensure it was safe enough for her daughters. As Sadie rooted around the frozen remains of the dingy room, Heidi and Korth stayed above on the landing, waiting for their mom’s signal to join her. As she inspected the corner beneath the stairs, she finally called them down and both females began to thump down the steps. But then, with their combined weight, the staircase suddenly began to shudder beneath them. With a gasp, the pair urgently tried to shuffle back, banging into each other and causing the old brittle metal to shake even more. Just as they had managed to clamber back to the landing, the stairs finally gave way and buckled, the sudden force collapsing part of the wall along with it and causing the building itself to groan. The crash itself was deafening, but it was nothing compared to the subtle cracking of the body it landed on. Sadie had been standing right in its path, her body crushed before she could even fully register what was happening.

Her children screamed for her. Even if they could somehow make it down, there was nothing they could do, and with the building beginning to shudder at the loss of part of its foundation, they would soon join her in death. Adrenaline driving them forward, Heidi and Korth dashed out of the building, almost incoherent with both fear and shock.

Their mother was gone.

.Before the Pack.

Sadie’s death left an emptiness in Korth. For a long time, it was nearly impossible for her to sleep more than an hour or two at a time because of the nightmares that plagued her. One of the pinnacles of her existence and feelings of safety had been violently ripped from her and the once confident bitch was now unsure of herself. She was shaken, but she wasn’t the only one. Heidi suffered as well, having lost not one, but two mothers now. It was for her sister’s mental wellbeing that Korth pulled herself together, pushing aside her own feelings of guilt and uncertainty to become the leader they both needed. She began making decisions for both of them and did her best to distract Heidi from the tragedy that loomed overhead. She may not have been the best leader (often getting distracted by things that caught her attention, among other things), but perhaps ironically, succeeding in her mother’s footsteps helped build back her confidence and helped work through her feelings of loss. Staying on the move, just as Sadie had taught her, kept her on her toes and her mind away from that painful memory.

After a year without their mom, both sisters were thriving, working together as a symbiotic tag team and using their skills and physical traits to their advantage in the harsh cityscape. They had grown closer than ever as they found themselves depending heavily on each other. Life was difficult, but manageable and, for the most part, the pair was content.

One night, however, while out on a hunt together, an earthquake struck the city. The tremors brought down the fragile remnants of an office building that crashed and thundered onto the city streets, cutting off the northern portion of town from the rest. It was here that Korth had wandered, having caught the trail of a rabbit darting in and out of alleys. She knew she had left Heidi off a while back (the heavier dog always having trouble keeping up with her) to pursue the prey item, but with the cloud of dust and debris strewn everywhere, Korth couldn’t find her sister anywhere. She panicked immediately, memories of her mother’s fate rushing back to her, imagining her sister now in the same place, trapped and crushed beneath the weight of the fallen building. Korth immediately began searching for her, digging through what she could of the wreckage, but ultimately coming up with nothing. Right as she felt herself breaking down and giving up on the only person she had left, she found something – Heidi’s harness. It was snagged on a jagged piece of metal and twisted, but where was its owner? From its position (along with some stray hairs she instantly recognized) it looked like Heidi had managed to pull it off after it became stuck. Korth’s breath stuck in her throat in relief – she might not have found her sister, but at least, maybe, she was still alive somewhere…

For days Korth wandered the northern district of the city – the only portion she could access now – in hopes of finding some other sign of Heidi, but since she couldn’t get back to the newest hideout they called home (where she hoped her sister had fled to), there was no way to truly tell if she had survived. Again, Korth found the overwhelming sense of loss and loneliness return to her, crippling what motivation she had left. She had nothing now. Everything that mattered to her had gone…

But for a second time she found herself pushing forward, knowing that if she just sat in one place she would be vulnerable as well as alone. Reluctantly, she kept moving forward, doing her best to distract herself from her own thoughts and occupy herself with hunting and scavenging instead, though even this was far less enjoyable as before.

.Coming to the Pack.

The city soon became a symbol of pain. Without her family, there was nothing positive to be found there and after a time, Korth had the inexplicable urge to leave it behind. She was restless and anxious here, sticking around for a long time to wait for some kind of sign, but she knew that even if Heidi had made it out, she might not have survived up until this point. Finally the day came where she just left, abandoning the place she had always called home.

If she thought the terrain in the city was bad, it was even worse out in the open. There wasn’t much to find in terms of shelter and the freezing wind buffeted her. It took a great while of aimless wandering to come across another city, even larger than the one she came from. Korth found herself apprehensive at first, not knowing what to expect, but grateful that the landscape was at least familiar to her.

It seemed the city was anything but abandoned, however. While chasing a lemming, the bitch turned a corner and nearly ran into not only one, but an entire pack of dogs. It was not the most ideal of first meetings, admittedly (Korth immediately becoming defensive), but the bitch was smart enough to know that surviving on her own made her much more vulnerable. So, hesitantly, she eventually asked to join and unwillingly submitted to the authority of Nimh and the other higher-ranking dogs. Overtime Korth tried to prove herself to the she-wolf and after a long time, was finally rewarded for her trouble, becoming a Firefly.

Heyo! This might sound a little weird, but was Korth in a group called "The Last Ones" or something like that? It was like The Last of Us, but with dogs. I remember seeing that group a long time ago, but never being able to find it since. I remember Korth because of her simple, yet interesting name and unique design. Love her btw :^)
